The Wellington District Law Society is committed to ensuring we apply the following principles regarding all people who contribute to the work of the Society, either in a paid or voluntary capacity. We aim to:
- make sure that all our selection processes, apart from elections, are based on merit, so we get the best person for the job
- be clear about what the job is we need done and the skills that are required to do it, so we can select, value and reward our workers appropriately
- actively work to recruit from a diverse pool so that we are confident of getting the best available people for all levels and in all areas of the Society
- select people who understand the needs of the diverse range of our members and can work effectively with them
- develop a work environment where diverse workers are welcomed, valued, provided with appropriate development opportunities and supported, so that all people who work for the Society can contribute to their full potential and draw from their full range of skills and experience
- broaden our systems and ways of operating to make sure they are appropriate and effective for the diverse people who contribute to the Society
- ensure our decision making is logical, transparent and fair
- ensure our decision making takes account of the needs of diverse contributors, members and customers
- treat people equitably, not necessarily the same
- expect all people who contribute to the Society to treat each other with respect and to operate professionally
- work with employees and volunteers to find solutions that meet the needs of the members, the people who work for the Society, and those for whom the work is done.
